This week in Reception, we had a wonderful time celebrating Earth Week and learning how we can all help to look after our planet.

We began by reading the story “10 Things I Can Do to Help My World” by Melanie Walsh, which inspired lots of thoughtful conversations about the small but important actions we can take every day. The children shared their own ideas about helping the Earth, from recycling to turning off lights and taking care of nature.

Our creative activities were a big highlight of the week. The children painted beautiful pictures of the Earth, using bright colours to show land, sea, and sky. They also took part in observation drawing, carefully sketching real flowers while noticing details like petals, shapes, and colours. It was lovely to see their focus and creativity.

As a class, we worked together to create an Earth Day promise. Each child contributed ideas about how they will help protect our planet, showing a growing sense of responsibility and care for the world around them.

To finish the week, we collaborated on a large Earth mural. Everyone added their own special touch, and the final piece was a fantastic representation of teamwork and shared learning. The children were very proud of what they created together—and they really enjoyed every moment of it!

It has been a fun, creative, and meaningful week, helping our youngest learners understand how they can make a difference to the world. 🌱
