This half term, Reception children have been enjoying the delightful story Bog Baby by Jeanne Willis, beautifully illustrated by Gwen Millward.
Inspired by the story, the children became nature explorers as they discovered more about where Bog Babies might live. They investigated habitats in rivers, ponds and woodland areas, thinking carefully about what creatures need to survive and how we can care for natural environments.
The children used their creativity to design and build homes for their own Bog Babies using a variety of natural materials. They also explored the question, “What magic might be hidden in the woods?” and shared some wonderful imaginative ideas about magical creatures, enchanted trees and secret woodland adventures.
Our young explorers enjoyed fishing in ponds and learning about the different plants and animals that live in and around water. They talked about the importance of looking after habitats and respecting wildlife.
As part of our learning about friendships and feelings, the children also discussed what makes their friends happy. They shared thoughtful ideas about kindness, playing together, helping one another and being a good friend.
We are incredibly proud of the children’s curiosity, imagination and enthusiasm throughout this topic. They have shown fantastic teamwork, creativity and a growing understanding of the natural world around them.
