Welcome back to Autumn 2
What an exciting time we’ve been having in Reception! The children have been full of enthusiasm as we explored and celebrated two very special occasions – Bonfire Night and Diwali!
Our learning began with discovering the history behind Bonfire Night. Through colourful PowerPoints, discussions and activities, we learnt all about Guy Fawkes and the famous Gunpowder Plot. We discovered how, on 5th November 1605, Guy Fawkes and a group of conspirators attempted to blow up the Houses of Parliament, where King James I was due to be. Thankfully, their plot was discovered before it could happen! The children were fascinated to learn about this piece of history and why we remember Bonfire Night every year with fireworks and celebrations.
We then turned our attention to the beautiful festival of Diwali – the Festival of Lights! We enjoyed sharing news and experiences with children who celebrate Diwali with their families, learning about the traditions and how people celebrate this special occasion.
Our classroom was transformed into a wonderful celebration space as the children got busy creating their own colourful rangoli patterns, designing and making beautiful diyas (small decorative lamps traditionally used during Diwali), painting, making decorations and exploring lots of creative activities inspired by the festival.
There was so much excitement, creativity and conversation as the children explored different colours, patterns, lights and traditions. It was lovely to see everyone joining in, sharing their ideas and learning about celebrations that are important to others.
Reception has certainly been filled with sparkle, creativity and smiles! We are so proud of how enthusiastic the children have been, embracing new experiences, sharing their learning and enjoying our celebrations together. What a wonderful way to learn about history, culture and the different traditions that make our world so special! ❤️
