This week, we had a fantastic trip to IWM Duxford. In our history lessons, we have begun thinking about how air travel has changed over time. To prepare for this topic, we spent a fascinating day exploring a wide range of aircraft from different periods, ranging from biplanes to modern jets.
We were even able to walk on board Concorde and several other aeroplanes. This gave us the opportunity to consider how their designs, sizes and purposes have changed over time. During the day, we were lucky enough to see a Spitfire take off, circle the airfield and land again. We also saw other planes and a helicopter in flight, which added to the excitement of our visit.
Another particularly interesting exhibit was the Virgin Atlantic Flyer hot-air-balloon capsule that Richard Branson travelled across the Atlantic Ocean in. We were excited to see such a huge array of aircraft and to learn more about the history of flight.
We had such a busy day some of us even fell asleep on the coach on the way back to school!
We cannot wait to continue exploring this topic and to find out about some significant aviators over the coming weeks.
