This week, our Reception children have been exploring the wonderful world of emotions and feelings through the colourful story The Colour Monster.
The children enjoyed meeting the Colour Monster and learning how different colours can represent different feelings. We talked about happiness, sadness, anger, fear and calmness, and shared times when we might experience each of these emotions.
Through stories, conversations and practical activities, the children have been developing the vocabulary they need to talk about how they feel. We have encouraged them to understand that all feelings are important and that it is okay to feel different emotions at different times.
The children also thought about what they can do when they experience big feelings, including talking to a trusted adult, taking some quiet time, having a cuddle, or using calming strategies such as taking deep breaths.
It has been wonderful to see the children listening to one another, sharing their experiences and showing such care and empathy towards their friends.

We will continue to explore our emotions throughout the year, helping the children to recognise, name and manage their feelings as they grow in confidence.
