Our topic this half term is “Go Outdoors.” The children have been fascinated by searching for snails in the Nursery garden. They have enjoyed looking after them, giving them names, and feeding them leftover snack items. Together, we researched some interesting facts about snails and discovered that they carry their homes on their backs! We also learned that snails have thousands of microscopic teeth on a rough, ribbon-like tongue called a radula, which they use to scrape and file their food. The children were amazed to find out that snails produce a special slimy mucus that helps them move along like a slippery magic carpet. We also learned that snails have two longer tentacles with eyes on the tips and two shorter tentacles that they use for smelling and feeling. Another surprising fact was that snails do not have ears and cannot hear.
In our PSHE lessons, we have been learning about our bodies and naming different body parts. The children have enjoyed taking part in activities that help them develop their understanding of themselves and others.
We have also been making the most of our outdoor environment in the mud kitchen, where the children have been exploring and creating with flowers. They have enjoyed making imaginative cakes, soups, and magical potions, developing their creativity, communication, and collaborative play skills.
