In English this week, Year 3 explored an exciting chapter from Planet Omar: Accidental Trouble Magnet by Planet Omar: Accidental Trouble Magnet. In the chapter, Omar and Daniel become lost in the busy streets of Central London during a school trip, creating a tense and emotional moment in the story.
To help bring the scene to life, the children worked in groups to create freeze frames of key moments from the chapter. They carefully used their facial expressions, body language and positioning to show how the characters might have been feeling at different points in the story. Some groups showed moments of panic and confusion, while others captured relief, worry and frustration.
The children also explored the characters’ thoughts and feelings in greater depth, using evidence from the text to explain their ideas. They thought carefully about how Omar and Daniel’s emotions changed throughout the chapter and discussed how being lost in a busy city might feel in real life.
It was wonderful to see the children using their imagination, empathy and teamwork skills so confidently. The lesson sparked thoughtful discussions and helped the children develop a deeper understanding of the characters and the events in the story.
