This week, Year 5 attended a special assembly led by the NSPCC called Speak Out. Stay Safe. The assembly helped us learn how to keep ourselves safe and reminded us that we always have the right to feel safe, both in school and outside of school.
During the assembly, we talked about safe and unsafe situations and how to recognise when something doesn’t feel right. We learnt that our bodies belong to us and that it is okay to say “no” if we feel uncomfortable or worried. We also discussed the importance of trusted adults and who we can talk to if we are concerned about ourselves or someone else.
One of the key messages was that we should always speak out if something is worrying us. We were reminded that we are never in trouble for asking for help and that we should keep telling a trusted adult until someone listens. The assembly also taught us that worries can be big or small, but they are always worth sharing.
We learnt about Childline, a free and confidential service run by the NSPCC, which children can contact if they ever need support. Childline is available 24 hours a day and can be reached by calling 0800 1111 or visiting their website. The assembly made it clear that there is always someone who will listen and help.
Year 5 listened carefully and asked thoughtful questions. The assembly helped us understand how to stay safe and where to get help if we ever need it.
