This week in Year 5, we have been developing our oracy, debating, and persuading skills through an engaging English lesson.
Our learning was inspired by the book Princess Blankets. The children explored the dilemma faced by the king: how to help his daughter, who is constantly feeling cold. Using this problem, pupils worked together to discuss different viewpoints, listen carefully to others, and build on ideas respectfully.
The children practised:
Speaking clearly and confidently
Giving reasons to support their opinions
Agreeing and disagreeing politely
Using persuasive language to influence others
It was wonderful to see pupils thinking critically, justifying their ideas, and growing in confidence when speaking in front of their peers. These oracy skills are an important part of our English learning and support children across the whole curriculum.
We are very proud of their thoughtful contributions and mature discussions this week!
