This half term, Year 4 have been learning about crime and punishment in Anglo-Saxon times as part of their history and writing lessons.
The children researched how laws worked over a thousand years ago and discovered how different life was without police or prisons. They learned about concepts such as wergild, trial by ordeal and how communities worked together to keep order.
Using this knowledge, pupils wrote their own explanation texts, clearly describing how crimes were dealt with in Anglo-Saxon society. We were incredibly impressed by the quality of their writing, their use of historical vocabulary and the pride they took in presenting their work.
Well done, Year 4 — a fantastic combination of history and writing!
