Year 1 have been exploring the exciting world of lines and discovering how artists can use different movements and directions to create wonderful artwork.
The children began by experimenting with the different types of lines they could make, from long and short lines to wavy, zigzag, broken and calm lines. They explored how moving their hands in different ways, using both small and large movements, could create a variety of marks and textures.
The children then analysed images of waves and discovered how a single wave can be made up of a whole combination of different lines. They looked closely at how these lines work together to create movement, shape and texture.
Taking their learning outside, the children worked together to create a large wave scene. They then developed their skills further by experimenting with even more varied hand movements to create the flora and fauna found beneath the water, including underwater plants and animals.
It has been wonderful to see the children’s creativity grow as they discover how simple lines and movements can be transformed into exciting works of art!
