This half term in science, Year 2 have been thinking about everyday materials. Over the past few weeks, we have been exploring our understanding of materials and their properties, while engaging in experiments to test them.

This week, we have been considering the terms absorbent and waterproof. We tested a range of materials to determine whether they were absorbent or waterproof, carefully observing and discussing the results. We had lots of fun and found it very interesting to discover that fabric could be made waterproof by covering it in wax.

We also explored a range of natural and man-made materials, examining and comparing their textures. Using paint, we printed patterns with a selection of materials and discussed the imprints they made. This enabled us to consider how the texture and surface of each material affected the appearance of the printed pattern.

We are looking forward to continuing our exploration of everyday materials next week too.
