Year 6 have launched into their new English text, Shackleton’s Journey, the thrilling true story of Ernest Shackleton’s incredible expedition across Antarctica. Each child selected a member of Shackleton’s crew and carried out detailed research before stepping into role to be interviewed by Shackleton himself, who decided whether they had the courage, resilience and teamwork needed for such a dangerous adventure. Through these role-plays, the children have been developing their use of powerful, persuasive and emotive vocabulary as they prepare for their next writing task: a personal statement applying to join the expedition. This exciting start has already brought the dangerous, frozen world of Antarctica vividly to life in our classroom.
