This week our focus story was We’re Going on a Leaf Hunt. After reading the story together, we went on our very own leaf hunt and found lots of beautiful leaves. The children then chose their favourites and used paper and glue to create lovely leaf collages.
We also spent time learning about Remembrance Day. The children made poppies using playdough, painted poppies, and enjoyed a special maths poppy game that helped develop their counting and number recognition skills.
In phonics, our focus sound was ‘a’. The children practised recognising and saying the sound through songs and games.
To support name recognition, each child now has a personalised name card. These have been cut into simple name puzzles for the children to piece together, helping them to recognise and order the letters in their name. Children who are confident with this activity have begun practising writing their names, starting with the first letter and focusing on correct letter formation.
Our school follows the Kinetic Letters Programme to support handwriting. If you would like to see how we teach letter formation, please visit: www.kineticletters.com
