This week, the Year 4 teachers welcomed back their classes, who all made a fabulous start to the new term. The children have already been busy looking at the properties of squares and rectangles in maths, thinking about the classroom rules and finding out all about Christian aid!

In addition to this, in English they created a reader’s theatre. After reading the opening to our new book, The Iron Man, the children turned the text into a script for a performance reading. They did this by working in groups,  text marking and considering how the words might be read for effect.  For example, some lines could be read by individual children, some words repeated and volume added to others.  ‘Crash’ could be read very loudly and ‘silence’ whispered.

Each group gave one another feedback on their intonation, tone, volume and possible actions. The children then rehearsed, refined and filmed their reader’s theatre.
