This half term our topic has been People Who Help Us. The children have been learning about the important role of firefighters and how they help keep us safe.

The children have particularly enjoyed exploring this through role play and imaginative activities. In the outdoor area, they worked together to pretend to be firefighters, using large boxes to create their own fire engine. They used their imagination to drive to emergencies and put out fires, developing their teamwork and communication skills.

In our small world area, we added pretend flames to a house so the children could use the fire engines to rescue people and put the fire out. This encouraged storytelling, problem solving and creative thinking as the children acted out different rescue scenarios.

We have also been learning through stories and books. The children enjoyed reading a non-fiction book about firefighters, where we talked about their equipment, how they travel to emergencies and the ways they help the community. We also read the story Charlie the Firefighter, which the children really enjoyed and helped them understand the role of firefighters through a fun and engaging story.

Through these activities, the children have been developing their communication and language, imagination and understanding of the world, while learning about the important people who help us in our community.
