This week, the Reception year continued their learning about transport and journeys. Children have extended their learning by constructing different models of vehicles and role playing about their journeys and travels. In order to create a better understanding about our topic, we decided to do a tally chart about how each child travels to school every morning. All the children had a lovely discussion with their talking partners about how they came to school everyday. Then we decided to make a note of how many childrenĀ  came walking to school, by car, bus or using a bike. We grouped the children according to their means of travel. Soon children were able to see that most of their classmates walked to school daily and some came by car or used their scooters or bikes. Children also told their partners about all that they observed on their way to school. Later, we also discussed the health benefits of walking to school daily. We also did a follow up tally chart to strengthen our learning about making tally charts, by discussing and recording the favourite fruits of all our classmates. All the children enjoyed learning something new.

At the end of the lesson, children also discussed about their journeys that they have made either travelling with their families for buying groceries, visiting their relatives and also been out and about during their half term holidays. All the children enjoyed the discussion based around their journeys and their method of travelling. Overall it was an interesting lesson for all our children.
