In this exciting lesson, we became real-life explorers as we created our own maps of the school and planned expedition routes for others to follow. Using compasses and key mapping skills, we carefully designed directions, thinking about landmarks, positioning and clear instructions. There was a real buzz of excitement as we tested each other’s routes, navigating the school just like true adventurers!
This hands-on experience helped bring our learning to life, as we made links to the incredible journey of Endurance Expedition led by Ernest Shackleton. By creating and following our own routes, we began to understand the challenges of navigation and exploration, just as Shackleton and his crew did all those years ago. It was a fantastic way to combine geography, history and teamwork—while having lots of fun along the way!
