Thank you to all the parents who attended our recent reading session as part of the National Year of Reading. The children thoroughly enjoyed listening to you share stories, and it was wonderful to see such enthusiasm for reading together.
Reading with young children plays a vital role in setting them up for future success. Research shows that what parents do both inside and outside the home to support literacy and learning has an even greater impact on early language development than income or socioeconomic background. Strong early language skills are closely linked to a childβs wellbeing, confidence, and success at school and beyond.
We also know that 90% of brain development occurs before the age of five, making the early years especially important for building strong foundations for learning. Reading and sharing books with young children, while giving them time to listen, respond, and talk about stories, helps develop their brains, introduces new vocabulary, and nurtures a lifelong love of learning.
