To start our new science topic of Inheritance, the children explored the idea of characteristics being passed down from one generation to the next. We discussed the difference between inherited traits and those influenced by the environment, using examples from everyday life. The class were fascinated to learn how identical twins share the same inherited characteristics and how many features we have come from our ancestors. We also investigated dog breeds, discovering how different breeds have developed over time and how all domestic dogs share a common ancestor — the wolf. This lesson sparked lots of curiosity and thoughtful discussion about how living things become who they are.
