This week in Nursery, we have started our “sound of the week” learning and are focusing on the letter ‘s’. The children have been finding objects that begin with this sound. I have also been sounding out words and getting the children to blend the letters together. For example, s-u-n, sun.

We have also been learning all about Fireworks Night. The children have had lots of fun creating colourful firework pictures using chalk and paint, making fireworks out of playdough, and even designing firework patterns in the oats. We also used our bodies to pretend to be fireworks, crouching down small, shooting up into the air, and shouting “Bang!”

The children also created a pretend bonfire inspired by our story this week. They collected yellow and orange leaves and placed them inside a tyre to represent the flames. Together, we pretended the fire was hot, crackling, and burning brightly. Miss Liddell then helped the children make pretend marshmallows out of paper, which she attached to sticks the children had found. The children had great fun “toasting” their marshmallows around the fire!
