All children were fast asleep by 11 o’clock last night, so there were no tired heads this morning! After filling up on a hearty breakfast, we got ready for our busy day ahead.
Group 1 began their morning with an incredible adventure through an old, unused railway tunnel. We went so far down that we reached the bend – and, as we know from our science lessons, light doesn’t bend! That meant we were in complete darkness. We were so proud of the children who faced their fears and pushed through. From there, they went on to gorge walking, showing fantastic teamwork and bravery as they climbed and splashed their way under waterfalls. It was an amazing experience!
Groups 3 and 4 headed to the Big Pit National Coal Museum in Blaenavon, near Abergavenny. They travelled 90 metres underground into a real former coal mine, learning all about the fascinating (and tough) history of Welsh mining. It was a brilliant opportunity to see what life was once like for miners working deep beneath the hills of South Wales.
Group 2 spent the morning at bushcraft, where they learned essential life skills such as building fires safely, cooking their own popcorn, and working together as a team. In the afternoon, they took on the rock climbing wall – another perfect chance to prove that fears can be conquered with a little determination and encouragement.
Dinner was another treat: warming soup followed by lasagne. We saved dessert for later and enjoyed it after an evening of orienteering, using head torches to navigate around the grounds in the dark.
We’re absolutely loving our time here in beautiful, peaceful Wales, and we can’t wait to see what adventures tomorrow brings!
