To help children explore their history topic further, year 6 children had an exciting visit to Valence House Museum, where they discovered what life was like in Dagenham during World War Two. The children took part in evacuee role play, learning what children had to pack in their suitcases and how it might have felt to be chosen by a stranger to stay with. They also explored the important work of the Air Raid Precaution volunteers, who made sure there was a total blackout and alerted people to danger. Additionally, they found out about the different jobs people did during the war and were proud to learn that Dame Vera Lynn, the famous wartime singer who brought hope to so many, was from Dagenham. Valence House is such a valuable resource that we are so lucky to have close to our school.
