Whilst some classes were on picnic trips, other children stayed in school and looked at simple life skills, as well as attending the library to read some books.

The life skill activity was to wash up plates and bowls in washing up liquid. This is a key life skill that the children need to learn for adulthood. It is not just for sensory or life experience, but also to help parents see that their children are being introduced to these types of skills, so they can continue them at home and know that the school have set the groundworks. The children really enjoyed getting their hands in the soapy water. Some needed hand-over-hand if it was a new skill, but they quickly got the hang of it once given the chance to try it themselves.

On top of all this, we still had classes going to the school library, spending time reading books to themselves, to their partners, and in groups with the class teacher. Some of our children love reading, whereas some are still in the process of holding a book and turning the pages, so what a better time to support these targets in the library.

Take a look at the pictures below to see the children enjoying their activities.
