As part of Black History Month, Year 1 have been learning about Jack Leslie, a talented Black British footballer who faced unfair treatment because of the colour of his skin.
We talked together about what it means to treat people fairly and why everyone should be given the same opportunities, regardless of what they look like or where they come from.
The children enjoyed celebrating Jack Leslie and his achievements by designing their own football shirts for him. They then had a choice of designing either a special medal or a football to celebrate his achievements. The children thought carefully about what made Jack Leslie special, including his talent, courage and determination.
We are very proud of the thoughtful ideas the children shared and how well they understood the importance of kindness, fairness and respect for everyone.
