Year 5 have been exploring the fascinating world of Islamic and mathematical art, discovering how artists can use pattern, repetition and rotational symmetry to create intricate and balanced designs.
The children have experimented with contrast in a variety of forms to draw attention to particular areas of their artwork, separate different sections and help patterns stand out. They have also explored how colours can work together through blending, considering how changes in tone and colour can create smooth transitions and greater depth.
Alongside pattern-making, the children have been developing their understanding of colouring and mixed-media techniques, practising how different materials and approaches can be combined to create smoothness, blending and interesting visual effects.
Through this work, Year 5 have been developing both their artistic skills and their understanding of the mathematical ideas that can underpin creative artwork, showing how maths and art can work together to create beautiful and carefully considered designs.
