Dear Parents and Carers,
I am writing to share the outcome of our recent Ofsted inspection and to provide some important context about the new inspection framework and report card gradings.
As you may be aware, Ofsted has introduced significant changes to how schools are evaluated. The expectations of schools have rightly increased, with a greater emphasis on depth, consistency and impact across all areas of provision. As a result, it is important to understand that previous judgements do not directly align with the new system. In particular, what was previously considered “Expected” does not equate to the same standard today—the goalposts have shifted, and the bar is now much higher.
Under the new “report card” approach, schools are judged across different areas using the following gradings:
Exceptional
This is the highest possible grading and reflects truly outstanding, sector-leading practice. It is awarded very rarely.
Strong
This indicates that provision is highly effective and securely above the expected standard, with clear impact for pupils.
Expected
This is the standard that schools are now working to achieve. A school at this level is providing a secure and appropriate quality of education.
Attention Needed
This means that some aspects require improvement and are not yet consistently meeting the expected standard.
Causing Concern
This grading highlights significant weaknesses where urgent improvement is required.
It is important to emphasise that “Exceptional” judgements are just that—exceptional. Across the country, no more than around 12 schools have been awarded this grading in any area. This reflects how ambitious and demanding the new framework is.
With this in mind, we are rightly delighted that our school has been recognised as Strong in every area. This is a significant achievement and a real testament to our whole community. It reflects the dedication, professionalism and care of our staff, and our shared commitment to the continual improvement of our children and our school.
I hope you enjoy reading the report and feel as proud of our school as we do
