It has been a wonderfully book-filled week in Year 5 as we celebrated World Book Day together!

Yesterday, the children came to school dressed as a character from a book they have read and enjoyed. It was fantastic to see such a wide range of creative costumes and to hear the children confidently talk about the characters they had chosen. Many pupils were able to explain why they related to their character and share a little about the story with their friends. It was a lovely opportunity to celebrate reading and the different books that inspire our children.

Today we continued our celebrations with a very special “story swap” afternoon. Teachers moved between classrooms so that the children could listen to three or four different stories, each read by a different teacher. This meant the children had the chance to enjoy a range of books and experience different storytelling styles.

It was a really calm and enjoyable afternoon, with pupils listening carefully and engaging with stories that the teachers themselves had enjoyed. Sharing favourite books in this way helped to spark curiosity and excitement about reading, and hopefully introduced the children to some new stories they might like to explore themselves.

World Book Day is always a highlight of the year, and it has been wonderful to see the children’s enthusiasm for books and storytelling. We hope it has inspired even more reading at home!
