Our first night in Trewern has been a brilliant start to the week. We had a lovely journey here and were greeted by a little rain as we arrived in beautiful Hay-on-Wye, where we met our instructors who brought us up to the Trewern Centre. After our introduction and a talk about the rules for the week, the children had the chance to explore part of the centre’s fields and enjoy a good run around in their waterproofs.

There were some questionable attempts at putting duvet covers and sheets on, but with a bit of teamwork, everyone managed in the end! Dinner was fantastic — warming butternut squash soup followed by pizza, chips and salad, and a delicious apple crumble for dessert.

The children quickly got to grips with their duty groups, learning how to set the tables, clean up, sweep, and get organised for tomorrow’s adventures. With full bellies, we finished the evening with a night walk, visiting the local church, stargazing, and even listening out for bats.

There are certainly some tired heads tonight, so it’s an early bedtime for everyone before our first full day of activities in beautiful Wales tomorrow.
