This week in reception, we dove into the the joyful book ‘Super Duper You’ by Sophy Hen. The story celebrates everything that makes each of us unique – our talents, quirks, big feelings and little surprises. As a class we spoke and being unique individuals and that difference is something to be celebrated. Some children shared what makes them feel proud, others talked about what they loved to do, and some described the qualities that make them feel most like them.
The children created self-portraits. With mirrors, paint and plenty of imagination, they explored how to show not only what they look like on the outside but also who they are on the inside. The finished portraits are a beautiful gallery of individuality. Each one tells its own story: a reminder that in our classrooms, we are a community of many ‘super duper’ selves ,all equally valued and important.
