For Maths this week, the ARP have been looking at addition and understanding numbers.
As you can see from the pictures below, there is a clear range of learning being completed within the classes. Some children are listening to the number of sounds and beats they can hear when the teacher bangs the drum. This is to see if they can keep count and to recognise how many sounds they heard. Then to point to the number of beats they heard, with the use of core boards.
Other children were using flashback cards to count up and recognise how many of each object we have, as well as what comes next. The children love coming up to the board and drawing during lesson time. It helps keep them engaged throughout the learning, and they do very well to wait their turn if given the chance.
Then, our formal class are recognising groups of numbers; looking at how many yellow and green/ red counters there are. and how many there are in total. Again, it is looking at the understanding of what the number of objects represent, rather than being to count up to 5, as many of our children can already do. This helps expand their knowledge of numbers well, and again, they really seem to be enjoying these activities.
