On Tuesday, Year 2 were visited by a lady from Victorian times!
She started by teaching about what it was like to go to school during the Victorian era and we learnt how to greet someone properly with a bow or a curtsy.
She then told us all about the jobs poor children had to do, such as chimney sweeps, ratcatchers and even scarecrows.
We discovered that some poor children in the Victorian era became pickpockets to survive and we even went “mudlarking” to see what we could find to sell for money!
We also found out about the workhouses where children were often split from their parents and had to follow very strict rules. One lucky child from each class got to dress up and pretend to be the mean workhouse owner!
It was a fascinating day, and we learnt so much about what life was like for poor children in Victorian times.
