Today, Reception children had a great time celebrating VE Day. VE Day preparation had already begun from the beginning of this week. All the children had started their preparations by first learning about the end of World War II which made them know the importance of peace, close family bonds and strong community ties.
To mark the occasion, children spent the day learning songs and dance which people did way back in 1940s. They also did a range of creative activities. They made their flags, buntings and did colouring of the street parties which had taken place when World War II had ended. At lunchtime, we held a special outdoor lunch. Everyone enjoyed classic sandwiches in the sunshine, bringing a real sense of community spirit to the day — just like the street parties that took place on VE Day in 1945!
In the afternoon, Reception children also had garden party. They got the feel of how every person must have felt when the World War had ended and all people gathered in their streets and enjoyed the street parties to celebrate peace and harmony. This helped the children to embed their understanding of this historical event!
VE Day celebrations have been great fun for all the children. Year 6 children also joined in to support our youngest learners’ learning and their support made this day a very memorable day for all the children.
