In Year 2, we have celebrated Safer Internet Day during this week. This year’s theme is ‘Inspiring change? – Making a difference, managing influence and navigating change online. The children have also attended an internet safety themed assembly. The children have listened to stories being read about Safer Internet Day. They have met characters including Digiduck, Smartie the Penguin, Mo and Jazz. The children in Year 2 have completed different activities about staying safe online. Some children designed their own internet safety posters. Children were able to share grown ups who they could go to both at home and at school, particularly if they have worries or concerns about working or playing online. Here are some of the things that children learnt. Children learnt that people should share kind messages online. They developed awareness of why they should never share their personal information online. This included having conversations about stranger danger. We also practised phrases to help us remember our teaching and learning about internet safety. For example, “Before you tap and click, you need to STOP and think!”
