This week, Year 6 learnt a Soul song called ‘Do what you want to’. The children learnt that Soul music is a popular musical style, developed by African American musicians in the 1950s, with famous singers and musicians including Aretha Franklin and Ray Charles (whose music we will be listening to over the coming weeks!)

What is the Song About?
Have you ever felt hurt by what someone said or did to you? The singer remembers a time when a friend upset them, but they are now ready to make peace, as they recognise how important the friendship is. The singer wants to be friends, but it is up to the friend to ‘do what you want to’.

Using the glockenspiels, the children rehearsed a tricky instrumental section of the song in pairs. You can watch how we got on below. Next week, we will perform the whole song including the instrumental section!
