The children have been going into the music room for their music lessons over the past few weeks and they have loved it!

Some of our children have never been to the music room before so we had to think carefully about transitioning them from their classroom to this new environment. Saying this, once the children were inside and they saw the instruments around the room, they were super excited and could not wait to get started.

One of our classes focussed on using tambourines and hitting them to a beat they needed to listen to being played on the computer. Some of the children needed some hand-over-hand support to begin with, whereas others knew exactly what to do and seemed to be in their musical element!

One of our other classes were using xylophones to create a beat. They started off getting used to the instrument and learning the keys. Then they needed to continue and keep up with a beat that the class teacher was playing. They all performed very well and also took it very seriously too.

This lesson was helping to build upon their listening and repeating skills. It helped to encourage understanding of music and keeping a beat and a rhythm. I also developed their concentration on one particular thing at a time.

It was amazing to see for the adults and the children did incredibly well to participate and complete the task. We are looking forward to more music lessons to push the children into playing more instruments and possibly growing their love for music.
