During this term, children in year four have been learning all about Roman mosaics. Did you know that the floors of Roman buildings were often richly decorated with mosaics – tiny coloured stones (tesserae)?Many mosaics captured scenes of history and everyday Roman life. Mosaic floors were a statement of wealth and importance. Each mosaic used thousands of pieces to make a pattern.

The children have begun their own work using mosaics and have started to design their borders using a variety of vibrant colours. They used brushes to glue down the tiny mosaic pieces. Check out the photos below to see the children’s work.
