Some of our children have been visiting the kitchen this week to start becoming more independent. We usually start off with something they can do on their own to build confidence and become more relaxed in the new environment. As you can see from the pictures below, our children were making orange squash. They needed to pour a small amount of the squash into their cup, then add the water.

This is an excellent gross motor skill as it improves their hand-eye coordination to pour, and understanding of when to stop pour so that it doesn’t overflow. Some children even had chef hats and aprons to really get them in the mood for the occasion.

Some of our other children are participating in their early morning movement activities we call ‘Sensory Circuits’. These were something that we introduced into the ARP late last year and the children really seem to be getting the hang of them now. We have recently noticed that some children, who usually find it more challenging to engage with certain tasks outside, will be more interested and follow the instructions well. These will include; jumping on a trampoline, sitting on the swing, or even bouncing onto different spots on the floor. Some of the children really enjoy these and have a lovely, huge smile on their faces. This may be the reason why the other children want to participate as they see how much fun others are having.

Take a look at the pictures below to see the children in action this week.
