Yeast Investigation

As part of our Bake It unit, year five investigated yeast, which is a key ingredient in bread recipes. With the yeast in a beaker, observed and recorded what we could see and smell.

Although we were not keen on the pungent smell of the yeast, it was fascinating to watch reaction that occurred  when we mixed yeast with a warm sugar solution.  We can’t wait to carry out more investigations next week.
