Y6 children embarked on a journey to learn about the Windrush Generation, delving into why and when they moved to the UK.

Our young learners began the lesson with an open heart and eager minds. They discovered that the Windrush Generation consists of individuals who arrived in the United Kingdom from the Caribbean between 1948 and 1971, seeking new opportunities and a better life. As they explored this history, they uncovered the incredible strength and courage that defined this generation.

To truly connect with the experiences of the Windrush Generation, the class engaged in a moving activity. They put themselves in the shoes of those who had made this life-altering journey. Each student wrote an informative letter, sharing their own experiences in the UK, both the positive and the challenging aspects.

This activity not only enhanced their writing skills but also cultivated empathy and understanding. It allowed our young learners to step into the past and feel what it might have been like for the Windrush Generation to leave their homes, families, and everything familiar behind. The children worked tremendously hard on their letters, please take the time to read some of their fabulous letters.
