This week reception children have been learning all about Thanksgiving celebrations all around the world. They have learnt how in Canada, America and other countries, family and friends gather for a special meal and other celebrations on Thanksgiving. Traditional family dinners in America often includes turkey, cranberries, and pumpkin pie. Parades and football games also have long associations with Thanksgiving. Children have learnt that the word thanksgiving means the act of expressing or feeling thankfulness. In other words, it’s the act of conveying thanks for what ever you’re grateful for. During discussion time children reflected and spoke to one another about what they have been feeling thankful for and whom they wanted to express their gratitude. During, discussion time, children surprised their teachers with many heartfelt thoughts. One of the children commented, ‘’I’m thankful to my mum and dad for loving me and also every night, before I go to bed for kissing me good night!’’ Another heart felt comment was, ‘I am thankful to you for being my teacher, for making me learn and looking after me in school’’. Do take a look at the lovely photos of various activities that the children participated in and now, all of them are more aware about this special traditional celebration of Thanksgiving!
