This week, the children were pushed out of their comfort zones in swimming for the first time over the past few weeks.

Now that the children have settled in to the pool environment and the swimming staff have been able to see what the children will be able to achieve, they were asked to try out some new tasks. Some started off nice and calm and simple, like, blowing bubbles under the water, by placing their chin under and blowing the bubbles. It then moved on to asking the children to place their whole face underwater and touch the floor. Some children were able to do this confidently, whereas other children needed some encouragement.

They then had to push a small plastic ball across the surface of the water with their noses, chins and foreheads. This was a real challenge, but the children did so well to get from one side of the pool to the other. They did some fantastic listening and gave it their all to complete the task. Saying this, some children did ‘cheat’ by using their hands if it became too hard for them, or if they began racing their friends to the other side, but it was great fun and they really enjoyed participating.

Take a look at the pictures below to see the children hard at work in the pool.
