So many of our children love the sensory play of the afternoon sessions. They particularly enjoy getting hands dirty with paint, water, mud and all sorts of other squishy feelings.

Below are some pictures of our children making hand prints using different primary colours, then mixing them together to make different secondary colours. Some children liked to make two handprints, then rub them together on the paper, whereas other children mixed all the colours together immediately and then made their hand print. Then, there were a few who didn’t want to get their hands dirty at all. After some encouragement from adults, they were still not interested in touching the paint with their hands. So, these children were given paint brushes and sponges to complete the task.

There are also pictures of another class with a range of sensory and turn taking activities. They have recently been using diene blocks to make two digit numbers in their Maths lessons. So, as you can see, they have a tray of pink coloured rice mixed in with dienes and number cards. Other children are turn taking, playing with a train set and Connect 4. The Lego tray is also very popular with our children. These are lovely ideas to use with children at school and at home as it taps into their interests. These trays and activities can be varied with whatever is needed for that child to be interested in. Feel free to take ideas or ask if there are any more examples that would be beneficial to see to use at home.
