As we approach Remembrance Day Year 2 have been learning about the significance of this date.

It’s a day to remember and respect the memory of those British servicemen and women who lost their lives in many conflicts around the world, those who have served and are currently serving.

As well as the red poppy the children learnt that other coloured poppies are worn.

Black – for all the Black servicemen and servicewomen from countries around the world who fought and died to bring peace.

Purple – for all the animals that contributed to the war effort. Many animals suffered or died in the wars.

White – worn as a symbol of remembrance and peace with the message ‘never again’.

The children made red poppies to go in the walkway at Stamford Road and some were used to display in the corridor. Our poppies are a sign of respect and hope for the future.

At the eleventh hour on the eleventh day of the eleventh month – we will remember them.
