Monday 9 November to Friday 14 November is Maths Week England. Everyone at Monteagle Primary School will be participating in a week full of fun maths activities.

Manipulative Working

Throughout Maths Week England, your child will be working with manipulatives (physical resources).  Please ask your children which of the maths resources they been using during this week.

Times Tables Rock Stars (TT Rock Stars)

When it comes to times tables, speed AND accuracy are important – the more facts your child remembers, the easier it is for them to do harder calculations.

TT Rock Stars

TT Rock Stars is a fun and challenging programme designed to help students master the times tables!  Over the course of Year 1, your child will start to learn how to multiply numbers together and will start to use TT Rock Stars.  In preparation for this, during Maths Week England, your child will learn to sign into their account, choose a rock star name and will create an avatar.

MWE Rock Out 2020- Years 2-6

During Maths Week England we are taking part in a competition. It’s called ‘Rock Out 2020’ and it’s all done online via play.ttrockstars.com.

For every correct answer to a multiplication or division question, your child will earn their class a point. The Times Tables Rock Stars platform will calculate the class average. Winning classes will be the ones with the highest average.

All game modes (Gig, Garage, Studio, etc.) will count but only from games played between 7.30am and 7.30pm on Monday 9th, Tuesday 10th, Wednesday 11th, Thursday 12th, Friday 13th and Saturday 14th.

In the spirit of the competition, please don’t play on your child’s behalf but by all means encourage and support them to the extent that it doesn’t cause high stress levels or impact on family plans. We suggest a limit of half an hour a day outside school hours – some will play more, some will play less.

The highest scoring class in each year group will win an additional playtime. The highest scoring class in the school will win a film afternoon with healthy treats. The highest scoring class in the country wins £100 Amazon Gift Card.

Lookout for an email with your child’s login details.

Rock Slam Tournament- Years 4 to 6

We will also be running an internal tournament.  Over the course of the week, your child will be challenging another child in their class to a Times Tables Rock Slam. They will need to answer more times tables question than the other player.  The tournament will continue until there is an overall winner in each class.  On Friday 13 November there will be one final competition where the winners in each class will play one another to find the Rock Slam Champion of their year group.

You can support your child by getting them to practice every day on TT Rock Stars.

Rock Star Dress Up- all years

On Friday 13 November we would like as many children as possible to come dressed up as a Rock Stars.  As this coincides with BBC Children in Need Day, we are asking for a voluntary donation of £1 which will be donated to the charity.

School Bank

We are currently in the process of setting up a branch of Nat West Bank in school.  You child will have an opportunity to set up an actual bank account and pay money into their account. Watch this space for details.

Everyone at Monteagle is looking forward to Maths Week England.
