This week we started our new IPC topic ‘Scavengers and Settlers’ where we began learning about hunters and gatherers. We needed to think of what these jobs meant, what they hunted for and what they gathered during that time in history. The opening activity to help us understand more about hunting and gathering was a ‘Scavenger hunt’!

This scavenger hunt took place around the playground, starting at the seating area outside Year 2 and Year 3 and moving all the way around to the adventure playground and the back of the Art and Music rooms. We all needed to find pictures of different things that would have been hunted or gathered by people during that time in history.

We had to find things like; rabbits, deer, nuts, berries, edible roots, and other similar things to eat. we worked in teams to hunt and gather as many things as we could in a short amount of time. It was fantastic to see all the children working together as teams to find these items around the playground, and it was a really fun way to start learning about our new topic.

Here are some pictures of us ‘scavenging’ in our teams.
