In History, Year 4 are learning all about the Vikings. In one of our lessons, we looked at how the Vikings travelled and explored the features of Viking longboats. The Vikings needed fast, sturdy ships for raiding, trading and exploring. As a result, they designed boats which could carry out surprise attacks and escape quickly. Children then explored how these features contributed to Viking success. For example, longboats had single sails and masts which allowed the Vikings to take the sail down quickly so they would not be spotted by their enemies. Another important feature was the long, narrow hull which allowed the ships to travel down shallow rivers, as well as across the sea.

Take a look at some of their incredible work!
