Our topic this week in Science has been Palaeontology. We have been learning about Palaeologist Mary Anning, who was a fossil collector, who became known around the world for the discoveries she made in Jurassic marine fossil beds in the cliffs along the English Channel.

Children made their own fossils using different materials. In order to do this, children firstly made a mould by pressing a shell into Plasticine. They then made a mixture (Plaster of Paris) and poured this into a plastic cup, added water and stirred. Finally, children scraped the mixture into the mould made from Plasticine and allowed around an hour to harden. Children then removed the Plasticine to expose the ‘fossil’.

Children were so fascinated and excited to learn about this topic and thoroughly enjoyed the task at hand. Take a look at some of the pictures above.
