We have had a wonderful first week back in Reception. The children have worked incredibly hard and jumped straight back into their routines like superstars.

This week saw us introduce our new topic of Food, Glorious Food! We read the story Handa’s Surprise and wrote sentences about which fruits Handa was carrying in her basket.

We have also been using balance scales to weigh real fruits and order them from heaviest to lightest. The children loved doing this and developed a great understanding of how to use the balance scales.

The children made use of the warmer weather we had earlier this week and enjoyed being back outside. They created roads, buses, made bubbles and built homes for snails they had found.

At the end of the week we tasted some different types of fruit. The children ate apple, oranges, pineapple, melon, kiwi and mango. We discussed how the fruits felt in our hand and also what they tasted like. The children found the orange, pineapple and the melon the juiciest and said the mango and apple were sweet.

Next week the children will be writing using some of these adjectives to describe which fruits they enjoyed the most.
