Reception children have been reading the story book, ‘Handa’s Surprise” from last week. As part of our learning, last week, all the children enjoyed the experience of tasting many fruits with lots of different textures and some of the fruits that they tasted were apple, orange, pineapple, melon, kiwi and mango. This week, children recalled how the fruits felt and what they tasted like. They were encouraged to use adjectives for describing the taste and texture of their favourite fruits. They were encouraged to use the adjectives in saying their sentences and then they wrote these adjectives in their focused writing activity. Some of the common comments were, ‘’the lemon is juicy and sour, the melon is sweet and soft and the pineapple is spikey and very juicy’’. All the children had fun learning to use adjectives by first saying their sentences to each other and then writing them down.
